Welcome to Ritual & Craft, a brand new Kodiak tattoo shop! Led by tattoo artist Mariana, we're a judgment-free female-owned small-business space. Our aim is to honor tattooing as a way of self-proclaiming power over one’s bodies, a ritual that has been passed down through generations for a reason. We are proud to be part of you reclaiming your body through tattoos. Our devotion is to you, your agency and your vision. Period. We wanted to create a meaningful space for our community to express themselves, gather, feel welcome, create art, have fun, and tell their stories through tattoos. No bs.

Judgement free space
We are a judgment free space, where only art matters and everyone is welcome. Period. No politics, no religion, no heated discussions on trending topics, no exceptions. We are here for tattoos. Just tattoos. Communication and ease of expression is our aim during all consultations and procedures. Everything else is nonsense.
Unique Design
We tattoo each design only once in order (with the exception of flash designs) to make sure that no one else will wear your tattoo. Your ideas are unique and your tattoo should be unique too, one of a kind and specifically designed just for you. We always say: a tattoo is an artistic group project. Creative freedom alongside your vision. Our professional recommendations supported by your trust. Patience combined with your tenacity (we know it hurts!). That’s all we need. Let’s make art together!
Tattooing as an investment
“Bold will hold” - That’s what’s all about. Tattoos are expensive and, as such, need to be seen as an investment for life. Our fundamentals are what makes long lasting pieces that look good now, but also over years of wear and tear. Sustainability is something we take pride in, not just the initial “instagram picture”.
Professional experience
Ritual and Craft is owned by Mariana, who has worked with tattooing for over a decade, worked in graphic design for another decade, and has been working in art industries for two decades or more. She has worked in multiple shops before opening her own, and learned by experiencing different environments in order to create a true traditional shop, embodying the most sacred rituals that made this art form be what it is today. Respecting traditions, honoring lineage, and prioritizing true craft are nonegotiables for us. We know tattoo history, culture, and all facets of this industry from experience, and are proud to bring this culture to Kodiak.
Process orientated tattooing
More than tattoos, we would like to offer you an experience. We want you to look back to your tattoo not just as an art you get to wear everyday, but also as a memory you can remember foundly. Customer service is sometimes underrated in tattooing but not here.
Technique
Precise linework, solid colors and soft shading. These are the basic fundamentals of a well executed tattoo. Composition and size are also essential in order to have a tattoo that looks good from a distance or upclose. Tattoos are meant to be aesthetically pleasing to your body, and in order for that to happen, technique is everything.
Our Team
Mariana Amaral
With over a decade of experience spanning two countries and five states, Mariana is a seasoned and well-traveled tattoo artist. She continuously refines her skills through workshops, conventions and guest spots around the world.
Specializing in black and gray neotraditional and art nouveau styles, Mariana excels across various techniques – from American traditional and fine line to black and gray realism and illustrative. While skilled in all sizes, she particularly enjoys large-scale work like sleeves and full back pieces. Her passion for nature, animals and mythology shines through in custom tattoos designed just for you.
Devoting a significant part of her career to trauma-informed tattooing, cover-ups, reworks, and blackout tattoos, Mariana takes pride in creating a safe and welcoming space for all individuals, regardless of their background. She is happy to provide full privacy while tattooing or doing consultations upon the client’s request, so nobody needs to feel exposed or disrespected.
Mariana is currently accepting new clients and has about a month waitlist depending on the project. Her consultations however take no time at all, so don’t hesitate to book one for free, no strings attached!
Becky
Meet Becky, a skilled shop manager with extensive customer service experience and a sharp attention to detail. She prides herself on respecting every person who walks through the door and offering them a top-notch tattoo experience. She is the go-to person for clients who want to ensure that their projects are executed flawlessly. Becky is a people person who loves working with clients to make sure that they get exactly what they are looking for.
Born and raised in Minnesota, Becky has called Kodiak her home for the past 13 years. She is a free-spirited Sagittarius who has a passion for art, journaling, yoga, the ocean, and the moon. She stives to be the most authentic version of herself while helping the collective tap into their power so they too can feel safe enough to be their most authentic selves. With her spunky personality, vibrant hair and infectious energy, Becky is a valuable member of any team she works with.
Becky is eager to meet and collaborate with current and potential clients while learning all she can about tattooing history and styles so she can better help the client narrow down what they want their piece to look before they move onto the design process with Mariana.
Olivia

Born and raised on the island of Kodiak, Olivia has deep roots in the local community and a lifelong love for creative expression. From an early age, Olivia has explored a diverse array of artistic mediums, honing her skills in painting, graphite, digital media, and now the dynamic medium of tattoos. Her infectious hunger to learn new styles have made her a natural fit for the Ritual & Craft family. Clients and locals alike are already familiar with Olivia's work: from having her art selected for the Kodiak's annual Crabfest poster, to her prints and stickers being sold throughout the art shops of the island.
With an innate appreciation for the great outdoors and nature's beauty, Olivia brings a fresh perspective to the tattoo world. Her strong work ethic and unwavering determination are sure to serve her well as she embarks on her apprenticeship journey. The Ritual & Craft team and the Kodiak community eagerly await the creative wonders Olivia will unleash as she transitions from accomplished illustrator to skilled tattoo artist.

How about some professional pictures of your healed tattoos?
Because healed tattoos just look so much better than fresh ones, we’ve decided to open the possibility for a photoshoot session of your healed tattoos! All you need to do is come in and pose, we will do the rest. You’ll receive up to 5 pictures by email, full resolution, of your tattoo. Feel free to do whatever you want with them: post them, share them, print them; your choice! This is a free of charge service we are currently offering to customers with completely finished and healed projects that can benefit both of us.
